How often do I need to water my Bonsai?
Every tree will vary depending upon local climate, tree location,
lighting conditions, size of the pot, and seasonal changes.
Generally the higher the temperature, the more watering is
required. It is not uncommon in some summer months to water
a tree 2 to 3 times a day. It is also not uncommon in some
winter months to not water a tree for 4-5 days.
The bottom line is that you do not want your tree to completely
dry out. It is also recommended that you place your tree on a
humidity tray (which can be purchased under the accessories
category), which will provide moisture in the air. Simply place
some rocks on the humidity tray and then add water to the tray.
Place your tree in the center of the tray and just add water
whenever necessary.
There are basically two different types of fertilizer: liquid and solid (both offered under the accessories category). Liquid fertilizer needs to be mixed with water and applied to an already moist surface. During the heavy growing seasons (spring, early summer), you generally want to fertilize your trees once every two weeks. You would fertilize even less during the fall and winter months. Solid fertilizer stakes can be planted into the top of the soil and will be gradually dissolved as they are watered over time.
You should check the roots of your bonsai during the spring, on a yearly basis, to ensure their proper health but repotting should only be required every 2 to 5 years depending upon a tree's age. Younger trees tend to grow roots at a much quicker pace than older trees, so they will tend to need trimming sooner.
No. After much practice, we have developed a way to ship trees across the United States with no damage. If you should receive a tree that is damaged, just contact us immediately and we will take care of the problem.
The majority of our trees are shipped via UPS 2-day service. The cost is dependent upon the receiving ZIP code. A rough estimate for shipping cost would be to calculate 15%-20% of the total order price.
